BeIN Sports Broadcasting Director Unveils Channel's Euro 2016 Tournament Coverage

With 100 days left until the start of Euro 2016, beIN Sports Broadcasting Dir Florent Houzot "unveiled the channel’s outline for the tournament’s coverage,” according to MEDIA SPORTIF. Hosted by France and to be played from June 10 to July 10, the competition will be broadcast “mainly on TF1 and M6, which won the draw for the final, but also in its entirety on beIN Sports.” Houzot claimed to have “no numerical target” for the Euro, but the advertising deals appear to show his “ambitions.” Thirty second ads will cost €17,000 ($18,450) for beIN Sports evening matches, and €25,000 ($27,130) for France's matches. Ad rates for the final will start at a base of €20,000 ($21,705) to €50,000 ($54,260), “with the higher rate being applied should the French team make the final.” In comparison, for the evening pool stage matches, TF1 and M6 “can expect between” €60,000 ($65,115) and €190,000 ($206,197) from total halftime ad revenue (MEDIA SPORTIF, 3/2). L’ÉQUIPE’s Julien Marival reported UEFA will allow beIN Sports to be the only broadcaster “with its own car following the Euro 2016 trophy tour.” From April 1 to June 9 a “special train will stop in 25 French cities including 10 host cities.” BeIN Sports will have a car converted into a studio to give fans a “behind-the-scenes look and daily coverage of the tour” (L’ÉQUIPE, 3/2). In London, Neil McLeman reported Arsène Wenger’s friendship with Paris St. Germain President Nasser al-Khelaifi has “seen him sign for Qatari-owned TV network beIN Sport for Euro 2016.” The Arsenal manager will be “a pundit at the tournament which starts in Paris in 100 days.” Al-Khelaifi is the president of the beIN Media Group and chair and CEO of PSG (DAILY MIRROR, 3/2).
