Andy Murray Doubles Up With Seedrs To Invest In 'Netflix For Magazines'

British tennis player Andy Murray revealed the first five companies who "will benefit from his personal investment as part of a partnership with crowdfunding platform Seedrs," according to Billy Wood of BDAILY. Among them is the U.K. digital platform for independent magazines, Readbug, which has been touted as the new "Netflix for magazines." Murray also "stumped up undisclosed sums" for four other U.K. startups, including:

  • Oppo Ice cream, which was named "startup of the year" in '15.
  • CommuterClub, the annual ticket subscription service.
  • Landbay, the peer-to-peer lender which "recently announced a partnership with Zoopla."
  • We Are Colony, which is a "global film streaming platform."
The investments are the first of a number that Murray "intends to make throughout the year, as part of a strategic relationship with Seedrs." Murray: "Giving recognition and support to British entrepreneurs is important to me, especially those who are the driving force behind growth-focused businesses" (BDAILY, 2/29).
