Event Notes: Arctic Winter Games Organizers Forced To Bring In Snow

Organizers of this year's Arctic Winter Games "have had to bring in truck-loads of snow to make sure competitors have something to ski on, as temperatures rise in host country Greenland." Poor snow falls "had threatened some of the key events" at the biennial event that draws athletes from Canada, the U.S., Russia, Greenland, Sweden, Norway and Finland. AWG GM Maliina Abelsen said that volunteers have "rallied round to scoop up flurries from surrounding hills and bring them to the main venues" before the March 6 start date (REUTERS, 3/1).

The 2017 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships will take place in Pesaro, Italy. The Int'l Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Exec Committee decided to entrust the organization of these championships to the Italian Gymnastics Federation (FGI). The competition will be held from Aug. 29-Sept. 3, 2017, at the Adriatic Arena, which has been a regular stop on the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup circuit since '09 (PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS, 3/1).

The NBA’s 10th annual Noches éne•bé•a Latin nights program will feature nine games celebrating NBA fans and players across Latin American and U.S. Hispanic communities throughout the month of March. It will begin with a nationally televised game between the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets on Saturday. The celebrations will be supported by TV and radio advertising on Spanish-language media across the U.S., by unique content on the league’s Spanish-language website, enebea.com, and by the league’s English and Spanish-language social media pages (NBA).
