Former Chelsea Manager José Mourinho Gets Date To Settle With Eva Carneiro

Former Chelsea Manager José Mourinho and the club "will face renewed pressure to agree a settlement over the case of Eva Carneiro, the former team doctor, at a hearing next month or face the scenario of full public disclosure of the details surrounding her controversial departure from the club last September," according to Martyn Ziegler of the LONDON TIMES. A High Court judge "is to hold a private hearing on the case on March 7 and will have the power to recommend a potential settlement." Carneiro "is claiming constructive dismissal against Chelsea and sex discrimination against Mourinho." If a settlement is not agreed after the hearing "then the case is set for an employment tribunal in early June." That "has embarrassing implications for Mourinho and Chelsea because the tribunal will make public all witness statements, including from Carneiro." All witnesses, including Mourinho, "would be obliged to attend, if summoned, and to give evidence in public." Carneiro’s legal team "will put forward their demands for a settlement at the hearing on March 7, but even if the judge does make a recommendation it will not be binding for any party" (LONDON TIMES, 2/25).
