Media Notes: Sky Italia Acquires Rights To Copa America Centenario

Sky Italia announced that it "acquired the exclusive Italian broadcast rights" to this summer's Copa America Centenario football tournament. The pay-TV broadcaster will show all 32 games from the "special-edition national team event." Sky's coverage will be shown in HD, "while the broadcaster will also provide action on its Sky Go mobile offering and updates via its news service" (SOCCEREX, 2/23). ... TV ad spend "has surpassed" £5B ($7B) for the first time, according to data collected by Thinkbox. The TV trade body's report "showed that advertisers spent a total" of £5.27B on spots, sponsorships and product placement on TV in '15, a 7.4% increase from '14. It is the "sixth consecutive year of growth for the sector" (BRAND REPUBLIC, 2/23).
