SPFL Vows To Fix Hampden Pitch Ahead Of Ross County-Hibernian Clash

Scottish Professional Football League chiefs on Sunday "vowed to work with Hampden bosses to sort the shoddy pitch for the League Cup Final," according to Craig Swan of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The playing surface at the National Stadium "is badly-damaged having been hammered by bad weather over the winter." With less than three weeks before Ross County and Hibs play in the showpiece clash, Hampden "is rutted, bare in patches and heavily-sanded." Resident Queens Park is "due to play two more games before the Final and there are no plans to relay the pitch before the big day." An SPFL spokesperson said, "The SPFL is in regular dialogue with Hampden Park Ltd. with a view to them getting the pitch into a condition fitting for a showpiece cup final." Although there is concern at this stage, both participants "steered clear of any controversial debate at this stage" (DAILY RECORD, 2/22).
