Football Notes: Spain's TAD Delays Decisions On Probe Into RFEF President Villar

Spain's Administrative Court for Sport (TAD) decided on Friday to postpone its decision on possible investigations into Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Ángel María Villar and Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) President José Luis Sáez. On Friday the TAD will continue to review the documentation it received from Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) on Feb. 11 (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 2/19). ... Liga MX side Cruz Azul coach Tomas Boy "wants guidelines issued about celebrations after he was sent to the stands" for his reaction to his team's late equalizer in a 3-3 draw with rival America. Boy danced and waved his arms around like a windmill, "provoking an angry reaction from the America players." Boy: "There ought to be directive from the Referees Commission listing the permitted celebrations" (REUTERS, 2/21). ... The Bundesliga match between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund "came to an extraordinary halt" after Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt refused to be sent off. The match was suspended after 65 minutes as protests followed Dortmund "contentiously taking the lead at the BayArena." After "waving away calls for a foul on Stefan Kiessling, the visitors broke and took the lead." Dortmund's goal "infuriated Leverkusen and Schmidt was ordered to leave the dugout due to his protests." He refused, though, and in response referee Felix Zwayer "took the players off the pitch" (PA, 2/21). ... Police have launched an investigation into an assault on Premier League side West Bromwich Albion's Chris Brunt after he "was hit in the face by a coin thrown by his own fans following their 3-1 defeat by Reading in the FA Cup." Brunt said that "he was disgusted and ashamed after being left with a wound just under his left eye while he tried to hand his shirt to a child fan in the away section at the Madejski Stadium." West Brom Manager Tony Pulis called for criminal charges to be brought against the "barbaric" West Brom supporter who threw the coin at Brunt (London DAILY MAIL, 2/20).

IN ARGENTINA: Starting with this weekend's games, Argentine football will not conduct anti-doping testing. This "could be for one matchday, or two, or it could last the entire season." This was announced by the Argentine FA, but the measure "has nothing to do with the AFA." It was imposed by Argentina's government following a suspension handed down by WADA (OLÉ, 2/21).
