Adidas Angry About Nike's Ambush Marketing At Bayern Munich Fan Store Opening

Adidas "will take a harder stance in combating ambush marketing after a recent incident," according to Gabriel Wagner of SPONSORs. Currently injured Bayern Munich player Jérôme Boateng wore Nike shoes and pants at the opening of a new club fan store in Munich. Adidas spokesperson Oliver Brüggen said that the company, which is Bayern's official supplier and a shareholder, will talk with club execs about the incident. As part of Bayern's contract with the brand, players are not allowed to wear Nike clothes at official events. Adidas, Brüggen said, is angry with the behavior of several Bayern players as well as Nike's tactics. The brand is calling on club execs to stop such behavior. It was not the first incident of that sort. In October five players, including Boateng, posed with their Nike shoes in the Bayern locker room (SPONSORs, 2/18).
