Israeli Website-Building Company Wix.com Partners With City Football Group

Fresh from advertising at the Super Bowl, Wix.com has "signed a global sponsorship with City Football Group," which owns Man City, New York City FC and Melbourne City FC, according to Will Heilpern of BUSINESS INSIDER. Israel-based Wix.com will be the "official website design and hosting partner" for the three football clubs. Wix.com CMO Omer Shai said, "Working with a globally recognized football club like CFG is part of our overall strategy to use the power of sport to reach worldwide audiences with our brand." Shai hinted that after the brand ran its first Super Bowl ad in '15, the big game had "opened up some interesting partnership opportunities" in the world of football (BUSINESS INSIDER, 2/17). The partnership officially kicks off with the release of an online video featuring Man City players Pablo Zabaleta, Fernandinho, Nicolas Otamendi and Raheem Sterling. In the video the players are building a Wix website dedicated to the fans and the chants they love as former professional footballer and pundit, Chris Kamara, commentates on every click. The partnership will give Wix.com users and fans of all three CFG clubs the chance to win hospitality tickets to selected fixtures as well as "money can't buy" experiences that range from attending first team training sessions to joining the teams for away games (Wix.com). THE DRUM's Tony Connelly reported the partnership will see Wix.com collaborate with Man City to "help the club engage with fans across its digital platforms" including its website and social media channels. Wix will also have a presence at the Etihad Stadium with "advertising on the pitchside LEDs" during Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup games (THE DRUM, 2/16).
