ManU Fans Protest $101 Tickets For FC Midtjylland Match

Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland has been accused of "exploiting" ManU fans by charging them £71 ($101) each for a ticket to Thursday's Europa League match in Denmark, according to the London TELEGRAPH. Around 800 ManU fans "have had to pay the premium rate for the first leg of the second-round match at the MCH Arena." The fans highlight the fact that Southampton supporters were charged just £22 ($31) when it played at the home of the Danish champions "in the Europa League play-off round in August." It has been reported that ManU complained to UEFA about the ticket prices, "but ultimately could not get them reduced" (TELEGRAPH, 2/17). REUTERS' Simon Jennings wrote ManU fans "are planning a protest." Fanzine United We Stand Editor Andy Mitten said, "Seventy-one pounds to watch a Europa League game is extortionate. The combined cost of all three tickets for Manchester United’s Champions League away games was only £75 ($107). Do they think United fans are three times wealthier than Southampton fans? Midtjylland are ripping fans off -- their own and the 800 traveling fans." Independent Manchester United Supporters' Trust CEO Duncan Drasco described Midtjylland's stand on pricing as a "real slap in the face" (REUTERS, 2/17).
