League Championship Side Bolton Wanderers Owner Reportedly Ready To Sell

League Championship side Bolton Wanderers Owner Eddie Davies "is ready to sell up to investment capital billionaire Roger Tamraz," according to Alan Nixon of THE SUN. The Egyptian-born businessman, 75, "looks set to be made preferred bidder." Davies has "hooked up with Tamraz despite bids from a group of fans" and long-term interest from former footballer Dean Holdsworth. Wanderers "are due in court for a winding-up hearing on Monday" and must pay more than £2M ($2.86M) in tax and VAT (THE SUN, 2/16). SPORTING LIFE reported three separate parties are understood to "be in the running" to take over the cash-strapped club. Tamraz has "emerged as the latest party," while the Sports Shield consortium, fronted by Holdsworth, and Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust "have also held talks with the club." Bolton's "slide into the mire has accelerated" after Davies "stopped his financial support" -- although he is willing to wipe out £185M ($264M) of debt owed to him as part of any takeover (SPORTING LIFE, 2/17).
