An exhibition on the motorsport career of MICHAEL SCHUMACHER "has opened in Germany," as the record F1 champion "continues his recovery from serious head injuries suffered in a ski accident." Around 200 guests including Schumacher's wife, CORINNA, and their two children "attended the opening of the exhibition in Marburg in the state of Hesse on Monday." The exhibition by a long-standing sponsor of the former champion "features racing cars from Schumacher's career as well as exhibits from his private ownership." It is due "to run for two years" (AAP, 2/15). ... Former Olympian and Pakistan Hockey Federation Development & Domestic Dir NAVEED ALAM and two other persons "were injured in an attack" late Saturday night. Alam was "ambushed by gunmen outside Shikhupura stadium." The former Olympian was "aboard his car when four gunmen riding two motorbikes, tried to intercept him." However, the driver "did not stop the vehicle, prompting the attackers to open fire." The gunmen later "pulled Alam's son and his close relative out of the car and thrashed them" (NATION, 2/14). ... Former West India cricketer VIVIAN RICHARDS is "open to the idea of coaching Pakistan national cricket team" though he feels that the current coach WAQAR YOUNIS is doing a "great job." Richards: "Given an opportunity to take up a coaching assignment with Pakistan cricket I would definitely give it a shot as I believe I have a lot to offer to the game" (PTI, 2/15). ... Seven-time Grand Tour winner ALBERTO CONTADOR is set to retire at the end of the '16 season, but "claims he could return to the peloton next year if his own development team wins a WorldTour licence." The Spaniard presented his foundation’s youth and U23 teams in Madrid on Monday and "teased that he is working to get RH+ Polartec into the professional ranks, which could lead to El Pistolero riding for them" in '17. But Contador admitted the project "would take some serious financing to get it off the ground," quoting a budget of €15M ($16.7M). He said that "the team would have to be eligible for the Tour de France for him to ride" (CYCLING WEEKLY, 2/15). 

NOTABLE DEATH: Former head of Russia's anti-doping agency RUSADA NIKITA KAMAEV died. Kamaev's death "comes two months after he resigned his post following a doping scandal in Russian athletics." RUSADA said that the cause of death was "a massive heart attack." Russia "was suspended" from int'l athletics last November. WADA accused Russian athletics of "state-backed doping, corruption and extortion" (BBC, 2/15).
