Event Notes: NRL Confirms All Stars To Be Held In '17, But Does Not Specify Format

The National Rugby League has "guaranteed the All Stars will go on" in '17 but in just what format "remains to be seen." A bumper crowd of 37,339 at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night was not enough "to ensure the survival of the game in its current form." Australian Rugby League Commission Chair John Grant said that the All Stars "would remain on the schedule in some form at numerous functions last week." He said, "We haven't got a right to make a decision on whether this game continues or not" (Brisbane COURIER-MAIL, 2/14). ... Arsenal will face the best of Major League Soccer in the 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. The match will be held at Avaya Stadium in San Jose on July 28 and will mark Arsenal’s first participation in the All-Star Game. Arsenal’s participation will continue the tradition of the MLS All-Stars facing int'l clubs, joining the likes of ManU, Everton, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma and Bayern Munich. Following the MLS All-Star Game, Arsenal will play Liga MX side Chivas de Guadalajara at StubHub Center on July 31 (MLS).
