KPL Side AFC Leopards Sign Three-Year Deal Worth $290,000 Annually

Betway is the official shirt sponsor of Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards, according to Otieno Otieno of GOAL. The three-year partnership was launched on Tuesday "and though officials declined to reveal the value of the deal," it is estimated to be worth Sh30M ($290,000) per year. Betway Head of New Markets Antony Priesman said, "We are not new to football sponsorship as we support West Ham in the English Premier League from which we have built an amazing partnership that we hope can be replicated here with (AFC) Leopards" (GOAL, 2/2). STANDARD DIGITAL's Gilbert Wandera reported hours after AFC Leopards unveiled their partnership with betting firm Betway, Gor Mahia "announced a similar deal" with SportPesa. Gor Mahia Chair Ambrose Rachier "did not reveal the amount his club expects to be paid." But sources who are aware of the deal said the club stands to be paid Sh250M ($2.44M) during the five-year deal. There were "murmurs from Betway after the announcing of the Gor Mahia deal," with officials from the company saying they will challenge it in a court of law "as they had a similar deal" with AFC Leopards (STANDARD DIGITAL, 2/2).
