Former AFL CEO Demetriou, Ex-FFA CEO Buckley Launch Sports Tech Business

Former Australian Football League CEO Andrew Demetriou is to launch a new sports technology business led by former Football Federation Australia CEO Ben Buckley, according to Darren Davidson of THE AUSTRALIAN. Called Beyond Boundaries Global, the Singapore-based start-up "is being backed by an Asian private equity firm and investors in Australia and India." Demetriou and Buckley "will both take a stake in the business, which will open offices in Europe and Asia." Demetriou will become chair and Buckley the CEO. Demetriou "confirmed the move but said it was too early to reveal any details about the type of services that will be provided." He said, "It's innovative and something different in a space that we think has some worldwide applications; we’re pretty excited about it." Buckley has resigned from pay-TV operator Foxtel, where he is exec director, sport, and Foxtel Victoria -- to lead BBG. It is understood Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein will name a replacement for Buckley this week "as part of a wider management restructure." Buckley has worked at Foxtel since '13. Since leaving the AFL in June '14, Demetriou has become a shareholder in Bastion Group, a sports marketing company "that helps broker sponsorship deals" for large organizations including AFL clubs (THE AUSTRALIAN, 2/3).
