Facility Notes: East Kilbride Cup Run Reignites New Stadium Plans

Lowland Football League side East Kilbride captain Barry Russell "hopes the fiasco over the venue for Kilby's Scottish Cup clash with Celtic can help them seal a move to a new stadium." The club was told last week that "New Douglas Park would host the Scottish Cup fifth round tie." But the venue for the game, on Feb. 7, "had to be hastily rearranged" after Hamilton Accies said its ground was not available. Russell believes Kilby's plans to move to a new 4,000-seat stadium "which is being proposed by local charity East Kilbride Community Trust, will gather momentum in light of recent developments" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 1/28). ... The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) said that the Confederation of African Football will "approve the new Limbe Omnisport Stadium to host an Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier in March." However, FECAFOOT President Tombi A Roko Sidiki revealed CAF has "some reservations because of some outstanding construction work." He said, "The stadium is not fenced and the access road not completed. But the Minister of Sports and Physical Education guaranteed that the stadium would be ready for the match" (BBC, 1/28).
