League Notes: Russian Sports Minister Says Prosecutor General Reviewing WADA Report

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said that the Russian Prosecutor General's office is "reviewing a report by the World Anti-Doping Agency which exposed wide-spread cheating and corruption in Russian athletics." Mutko said, "The prosecutor general's office is reviewing the doping report, as is a group of lawyers. If needed, they are ready to initiate criminal proceedings" (REUTERS, 1/27). ... The Commonwealth Games Federation announced a "collaboration with the International Centre for Sport Security Europe to work together to help protect and safeguard Commonwealth sport." The CGF and ICSS Europe will "work in partnership to promote the highest standards of good governance, transparency and integrity in sport." The CGF will also collaborate with ICSS Europe "as it looks to help encourage the development of a global independent, neutral, multi-stakeholder integrity alliance for sport" (GULF TIMES, 1/26). ... New Zealand Football CEO Andy Martin said that the organization is dealing with a "global monitoring company to track betting patterns on ASB Premiership games." Martin said that NZF is "taking steps to prevent match-fixing finding its way into the ASB Premiership" after NZ$50M was bet on the national competition last season. More than 200 Asian and Indian betting sites are "responsible for the massive amount of money that was wagered and that figure is predicted to triple this season with the league being televised" (STUFF, 1/27).
