Olympic Notes: Transgender Case Halts IOC Plan To Liberalize Rules

The IOC's plan to liberalize the regulations governing transgender competitors "has hit a roadblock because of a related legal case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport." The IOC agreed that a male-to-female transgender athlete "should be eligible to compete in female competition even if she did not undergo gender reassignment surgery, provided that the athlete's total testosterone level has been below 10 nmol/L for at least 12 months before competing." A case before the CAS has "called into question the level of testosterone that gives a woman an unfair advantage over her fellow competitors" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 1/27). ... One Complete Solution Ltd. Group (OSC) has come on board to sponsor the 2016 Irish Paralympic team and the 2016 OCS Irish Paralympic Awards, to be held in December. The investment by OCS Group Ireland follows its support of the Irish Paralympic team at London 2012 and the continuation of the legacy from the successful 2012 OCS Irish Paralympic Awards (Paralympic Games).
