Pro Kabaddi League Rakes In Sponsorship Deals Ahead Of Third Season

Pro Kabaddi League teams "are garnering interest from sponsors for the league's third season later this month, and are even claiming that they will be able to surpass their season II sponsorship revenues this year, though the value generated per sponsorship slot would grow marginally for most teams," according to Ravi Teja Sharma of the ECONOMIC TIMES. U Sports CEO Supratik Sen, whose company runs the Ronnie Screwvala-owned Mumbai franchise U Mumba, said that U Mumba renewed its sponsorship deal with Amul Macho and Enerzal and has "brought on board new sponsors" such as adidas, TVS and Tata Motors. Telugu Titans "renewed its deals with Greenko, Maha Cement and Field Gear while bringing in a new partner in Sri Chaitanya group." Runners-up Bengaluru Bulls signed up a tire company, a car brand and a sports gear brand, "while Patna Pirates has renewed its deal with Sun Pharma." At the league level, broadcaster Star, which also is a co-owner of the league, "signed up Gionee Mobiles and Fair & Lovely Men's as new sponsors for its third season" while retaining its existing core sponsors Flipkart, Bajaj Electricals, TVS and State Bank of India. Star "will continue as the title sponsor for the league." Riding on the popularity of the game in the first two seasons, organizers decided to have two seasons of the PKL a year -- one in January and another in July -- "which also involves a rise in kabaddi inventory being sold to sponsors in a year" (ECONOMIC TIMES, 1/25).
