Bundesliga GMs Propose Matchday Over Christmas Similar To EPL 'Boxing Day'

Bundesliga GMs "have proposed scheduling a matchday over Christmas similar to what the English Premier League does," according to Henning Eberhardt of SPONSORs. Regarding a "Boxing Day" gameday on Dec. 26, Borussia Mönchengladbach GM Max Eberl said, "Why not? But it's important to me that we don't squeeze it out like a lemon. We have to make sure that we stay competitive. And this includes the willingness to be open. For example to an additional gameday." VfL Wolfsburg GM Klaus Allofs added that as a result the winter break "could start after a potential 'Boxing Day' gameday." He added that it is important not to forget tradition and connect the fans closer to the clubs in all these proposed modifications. Allofs: "We have to communicate that it isn't only about more money. It is a fact that we won't catch the English -- and we also shouldn't try to copy them. The Bundesliga needs its own, unique face" (SPONSORs, 1/25).
