Bundesliga Side FC Cologne Plans To Play Overseas Games Following The Season

Bundesliga side FC Cologne "is planning an overseas trip following the completion of the season," according to Gabriel Wagner of SPONSORs. Cologne Managing Dir Alexander Wehrle said, "We expect to play exhibition games in one of our core markets after the season. We have to think more globally." It has not yet been determined what market the club will visit. Asia and the U.S. are the two markets discussed by the club. During last season's winter break, Cologne went to Florida for its training camp. Wehrle is open to multiple potential target markets. He said, "As long as you don't have a representation in one location you can have a dual strategy." However, once the club makes a decision "it plans to develop a long-term globalization strategy." The club also "plans to build new practice fields and talk to the city about increasing its stadium capacity" (SPONSORs, 1/25).
