Government Proposals Backed By FA Will Give Supporters More Power

Football fans are to "receive a proper say in running and even rescuing their clubs following government proposals backed by the FA, Premier League and Football League," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. This will see "all clubs mandated to hold two meetings a year between their top officials and supporters groups, with both sides involved in setting the agenda for discussions." The proposals are expected to bring an extra £1M ($1.4M) in funding "over three years from the Premier League to assist fans with ownership-related issues." In addition, an emergency fund "will be available for supporters wanting to buy their club out of administration but needing legal help or other immediate expertise." Administrators will also have "to give supporters’ trusts a chance to make a bid for an insolvent club" (DAILY MAIL, 1/18).
