Galatasaray Facing Sanctions For Failing To Meet Break-Even Requirement

The UEFA Club Financial Control Body investigatory chamber decided to refer Turkish side Galatasaray's case to its adjudicatory chamber as the Turkish club "failed to meet the terms of the agreements put forward in a deal reached with the top body of European football to meet its financial fair play criteria last year," according to DAILY SABAH. The statement released on the UEFA website said that the club "has failed to comply with the break-even requirement during the monitoring period assessed in the 2015/16 season." The CFCB adjudicatory chamber will take a decision on Galatasaray's case by the end of February, "which may have serious consequences for the football club," such as a European competition ban, transfer ban, and "even relegation to a lower division" (DAILY SABAH, 1/18). GOAL's Joe Wright reported three other clubs have "satisfactorily organised their finances and have consequently exited the CFCB's settlement regime." UEFA said that Hull City, Panathinaikos and Sporting Lisbon "were found to have fully complied with the terms of their agreements." Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Ruch Chorzow, Rostov and Kardemir Karabukspor "will all continue to have their finances monitored and a further update will be provided in March" (GOAL, 1/18).
