Football Notes: Liga MX Side Veracruz Owner Attacks FMF Technical Director

Liga MX side Veracruz Owner Fidel Kuri "completely lost his temper and was caught live on TV shouting into the face of the technical director of the Mexican Football Federation’s (FMF) refereeing commission Edgardo Codesal" after Veracruz’s Daniel Villalva was sent off in the 90th minute. As Codesal attempted to leave the stadium, "a punch was swung at him and there was a scuffle as tempers boiled over." After Kuri demanded that Codesal was removed from his position and stated he did not "regret his actions in interviews," Kuri then apologized on Sunday in an open letter and suggested he would not "appeal any sanction that comes his way," as long as it does not "affect the team." It was not "the only negative incident of the weekend, with reports coming out that Monterrey fans burned seats inside Puebla’s Estadio Cuauhtemoc on Sunday" (SPORT NEWS CAFE, 1/18).

IN SPAIN: Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) will this week investigate claims the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) gave favorable treatment to Recreativo and "the injustice" represented by how other clubs like recently relegated Huracán were treated. CSD sources said that the organization will request from the RFEF information about the case, with the federation having just five days to respond. Recreativo was accused by former coach José Luis Oltra and his staff of failing to pay them more than €215,000. The debt was assumed by Spain's National Coach Committee, allowing Recreativo to begin this season in Spain's third tier (MARCA, 1/18). ... Spanish Football League (LFP) President Javier Tebas "appears absolutely convinced" that a '10-11 game between Levante and Zaragoza was fixed. But he admitted "that deciding whether what happened deserves legal action is another matter" (EFE, 1/18).
