Former Hungarian President PAL SCHMITT will head a group "tasked with advising and promoting Budapest's bid for the 2024 Olympic Games." Others among the 23 "Guardians of the Olympic Bid" include chess grandmaster JUDIT POLGAR, Budapest Mayor ISTVAN TARLOS, and Int'l Weightlifting Federation President TAMAS AJAN (AP, 1/15). ... Under Armour has hired CONRAD LAGEMANN "as its new sports marketing manager in Germany." Lagemann, who will start his new job on Feb. 1, "joins Under Armour from sports marketing ageny Ufa Sports." The 38-year-old will reported to Under Armour's Amsterdam-based Head of Sports Marketing Europe PEER SCHNEIDER (SPONSORs, 1/15). ... A close aide of Liverpool FC Owner JOHN W. HENRY "resigned from his position as vice chairman and director of the Premier League football club." According to records filed on Companies House, DAVID GINSBERG "resigned from the Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd and parent UKSV Holdings Company." Ginsberg "is vice chairman of Fenway Sports Group." Liverpool was "unable to comment at the time of publication" (INSIDER MEDIA, 1/15). ... Manor has signed former Ferrari Chief Designer NIKOLAS TOMBAZIS "as chief aerodynamicist." Tombazis, sacked by Ferrari after nine years following their winless '14 season, "joins the back-of-the-grid team with immediate effect." Manor is still without a team principal following the resignation, at the end of last season, of Founder JOHN BOOTH and GRAEME LOWDON, who was the team's president and sporting director (BBC, 1/15). ... UFC named former Traffic Sports Dir of Sponsorships MATT NEIDEL director of marketing partnerships (THE DAILY). ... PGA Tour Commissioner TIM FINCHEM has been named World Golf Foundation chairman for '16 by the board of directors. He succeeds PGA of America CEO PETE BEVACQUA. Finchem became commissioner of the PGA Tour on June 1, 1994. During his tenure, the PGA Tour has raised more than $1B of the $2B-plus raised in its history for charitable organizations (PGA Tour). ... The Russian Athletics Federation elected DMITRY SHLYAKHTIN, a "politically connected former coach" as its new president Saturday as it tries to end the country's suspension from Olympic track and field" (AP, 1/16)
