Bayern's Exhibition Game Against Karlsruhe Draws Slightly More Than 1 Million Viewers

German free-to-air TV channel Sat.1 "recorded only slightly more than 1 million viewers for its broadcast of the exhibition game between Bayern Munich and Karlsruhe SC," according to Marcel Pohlig of DWDL. The game drew 1.17 million during the first half. The viewership increased to 1.41 million viewers over the course of the second half. In the target demographic 14-49, the first half attracted 410,000 viewers and obtained a 7.2% share. The second half's market share climbed to 8.1% as about 500,000 viewers tuned in. German public broadcaster ZDF had more success with its broadcast of Germany's first game at the EHF European Championships. The game between Germany and Spain drew an average of 3.8 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 14.6%. In the target demo, the handball game had a 11.4% market share as 930,000 viewers tuned in.

NFL PLAYOFFS: German free-to-air TV channel ProSieben Maxx drew 340,000 viewers for its coverage of AFC Divisional round playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots starting at 10:40pm. The viewership increased to 390,000 half an hour later. In the target demo, the channel's market share increased from 2.5% to 3.4% over the same 30 minutes. The game's halftime analysis drew a 4% share in the target demo around midnight. The second half obtained a 4.5% share as the Patriots held on to a 27-20 win (DWDL, 1/17).

PSG VS. LYON: L’ÉQUIPE reported the Wednesday night quarterfinal match of the French Coupe de la Ligue between Paris St. Germain and Olympique de Lyon broadcasted on France 3 “attracted an average audience of close to 3 million viewers.” The match was the third most watched program in France with 2,918,000 viewers on average, representing a 12.4% of the market share. The Bordeaux vs. Lorient match, which was broadcasted before PSG vs OL, attracted 900,000 viewers on average on France 4 for a 3.6% market share (L’ÉQUIPE, 1/14)
