National League Side Eastleigh Considers BBC Ban After Another Coverage Snub

National League side Eastleigh "may ban the BBC's Football Focus" from its ground if the club makes it into the next round of the FA Cup after a triple FA Cup snub, according to Rick Broadbent of the LONDON TIMES. The side’s third-round replay away at Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday "has been overlooked for live coverage." And, after "failing to attract the cameras for the first game against Bolton," the only surviving non-league side knows it will also miss out on the fourth round if it pulls off a "giant-killing." Club Chair Stewart Donald said, "One minute we have Football Focus down here talking about the romance of the cup and the next they tell us we’re not being shown live. The romance has been lost a bit for me. They want to have their cake and eat it and it would be a bit hypocritical to let the BBC in when we’ve criticized them." Donald "is a realist" and said that "he understands that Eastleigh cannot match Barclays Premier League teams when to comes to selling games to foreign markets." Nevertheless, neutrals "may be surprised" that BT Sport is showing Bristol City against West Bromwich Albion next Tuesday instead. Donald: "We know that even if we managed to get through into the fourth round, where we would face a real David v Goliath tie against Leeds, we will not get the coverage. It’s not like we’re on the breadline and need the money, but you can’t keep banging on about the romance of the FA Cup when this sort of thing happens" (LONDON TIMES, 1/14).
