Former Player Fredi Bobic Believes Germany's 50+1 Rule Will Come To An End

Retired footballer and former VfB Stuttgart Sports Dir Fredi Bobic "believes German football's '50+1 Rule' will come to an end," according to Henning Eberhardt of SPONSORs. Bobic: "Many historic clubs have not prepared themselves for the new times, many missed out." Without naming any clubs, he added, "They relied on their history and spent too much money." Bobic believes that the trend "will continue and old traditional clubs like VfB Stuttgart will be less successful than clubs with big financial backing like RB Leipzig, which receives financial support from Red Bull." He said, "Unfortunately, we will see more and more historic clubs fight against relegation." As a result, Bobic believes that the 50+1 Rule, which guarantees that a club has to own the majority of ownership of a team, will be abolished. Bobic: "We will resist it for a long time, but the 50+1 Rule will certainly come to an end" (SPONSORs, 1/8).
