Organizers Unveil Kingston Heath As Host Venue For This Year's World Cup Of Golf

Organizers for this year's World Cup of golf "have officially confirmed its hosting venue" for the A$11M ($7.7M) tournament: Kingston Heath, according to Matt Murnane of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Organizers confirmed in a release on Thursday that Kingston Heath -- which this week was ranked No. 18 on the list of top 100 golf courses in the world by Golf Digest -- "had secured the hosting rights." As expected, the tournament "will return to its traditional 'teams' format," held in the week starting Nov. 21. The top-ranked 28 available players from different countries "will get to choose a teammate for the event, creating 28 two-man teams." The announcement of Kingston Heath as the venue for the World Cup "only strengthens the likelihood that Royal Melbourne will stage the Presidents Cup scheduled to be in Melbourne in 2019." It is possible that the World Cup "could be the only top-flight golf event in Melbourne this year," given the Australian Masters -- part of the domestic "Triple Crown" -- "is yet to secure a date" (SMH, 1/7).
