Football Notes: Spanish Football League Announces Players Now Owed Just $7,600

La Liga announced on Wednesday that it reduced the debts of its clubs related to player payments. It announced, "From the €3.3 million demanded by players in Jan. 2015, this has dropped to €7,041 ($7,600), practically reducing players' claims for owed payments to zero." It was also announced that the number of complaints has dropped from 48 to 1, and in the one remaining case, "the quantity demanded has been paid and awaits judicial resolution" (AS, 1/5). ... The Hillsborough Family Support Group revealed that the Hillsborough Memorial Service on April 15 "will be the last one to be held at Anfield." The decision was "unanimously agreed by the families of the HSFG," which has organized every service at the stadium since the disaster. HSFG Chair Margaret Aspinall said, "The 96 will never be forgotten. It is likely that the inquests will be concluded before the anniversary so this final memorial service will provide the families with some closure" (London DAILY MIRROR, 1/6).
