Ghana FA Threatens To Take Sponsor Capital Bank To Court

Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said that the organization "will be heading to court" should Capital Bank, headline sponsor of Ghana Premier League, "refuse to rescind the decision" to withdraw its sponsorship package, according to GOAL. The bank signed a five-year deal with the body in Jan. '14, worth $10M in total and $2M annually, to replace telecom Globacom. However, the lender "pulled out after reaching a decision to undergo restructuring." Nyantakyi said, "We have written a letter to the Capital bank alerting them that the decision they took is against the contract. The contract does not allow them to suspend the sponsorship agreement." The GFA is reportedly currently "on the lookout for a new sponsor ahead of the new campaign but has already advised clubs to accept a league without sponsorship if all attempts proved futile" (GOAL, 1/4).
