Football Notes: Dutch FA Offers Under-Pressure ManU Manager Van Gaal Lifeline

ManU Manager Louis Van Gaal "has been offered a potential escape route from Manchester United after Holland head coach Danny Blind said he could do with his assistance with the national team." Van Gaal "remains under intense pressure at Old Trafford." Blind, who served as van Gaal’s assistant at the World Cup finals last year, when Holland finished third, "before taking over as head coach from Guus Hiddink in July, believes that the United manager would be an ideal appointment as the technical director for Dutch football" (LONDON TIMES, 12/31). ... FIFA has pledged $850,000 "for construction and renovation of football infrastructure in Nepal." FIFA Development Officer Shaji Prabhakaran informed during a press conference that world football governing body "will provide the All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) with $600,000 for laying artificial turf at the Anfa Technical Centre in Chyasal." The rest of the amount "will go to the reconstruction and renovation of infrastructure in the earthquake affected areas" (KATHMANDU POST, 12/30). ... League One side Sheffield United has launched an investigation into allegations of "inappropriate behaviour" by a small section of fans during Monday's win against Bradford at Bramall Lane. Bradford's traveling fans "reported racist chanting from a small minority of United supporters, while the home striker Billy Sharp claimed he had coins thrown at him from the away end" (PA, 12/30).
