Spanish Basketball League President Admits New Euroleague Format Is A Concern

Spanish Basketball League (ACB) President Francisco Roca admitted that the new Euroleague competition concerns him "a lot," according to the EFE. The new Euroleague competition system starting in '16-17 will feature 16 teams, down from 24 under the current format. Roca: "It is a proposal that concerns me a lot, one we are studying and that we have to debate internally in the ACB." He added that he believes the new model will create "problems with the calendar" (EFE, 12/15). In Madrid, Guillermo Domínguez wrote the Euroleague is planning "drastic changes." There will be fewer teams, but more games, "in a format that will favor the biggest European clubs." It will be a "kind of European superleague" that could "mean the death" of a competition like the ACB (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 12/15).
