Football Notes: Argentine FA To Hold Presidential Election On Friday

The Argentine FA confirmed on Tuesday that the meeting to elect the body's new president will be held on Friday at 6pm. AFA spokesperson Ernesto Cherquis Bialo confirmed the news at a press conference. The two candidates are incumbent Luis Segura and Marcelo Tinelli. This follows an AFA presidential vote that was held on Dec. 3, but then postponed after organizers discovered an extra vote (DIARIO UNO, 12/15).

MORE TRANSFER BANS?: Suspended FIFA President Sepp Blatter said that Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid "should face similar sanctions to that of Barcelona if the clubs are found guilty of transfer irregularities." FIFA is investigating the clubs over the signings of underage players. Blatter said to Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo, "Effectively the disciplinary committee of FIFA has opened two separate files to Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid for the same offenses committed by FC Barcelona. They are closed, but I do not know what the sanctions are because they are independent commissions and I am currently banned ... I can't even walk inside FIFA" (GOAL, 12/15).
