Rangers Chair Dave King Found Not Guilty Of Breaching Mike Ashley's Injunction

Scottish Championship side Rangers Chair Dave King was found "not to have breached a court injunction over the details of Sports Direct's commercial deal with the Ibrox club," according to Craig Fowler of the SCOTSMAN. The ruling was made by Justice Peter Smith at the High Court in London after the case against King was launched by Mike Ashley's company. King could have spent 30 days in prison "had he been found guilty" of the offense, while Sports Direct was also seeking £200,000 ($303,200) in compensation. Lawyers for Sports Direct alleged that King "had breached the gagging order by referring to meetings between Rangers and the sportswear company during an interview with Sky Sports in July." However, the judge "was not satisfied that Sports Direct had been harmed by what King said in the interview." Smith said, "Three out of four of your complaints are just Mr. King discussing existence of meetings." He also asked Sports Direct lawyer David Quest, "I'm trying desperately to find out what is so damaging about King referring to the meeting?" Smith also wanted to know what Ashley's motivations were behind bringing the matter to court, asking, "Is your client interested in having a relationship with Mr. King or does he just want to drive him into the ground?" (SCOTSMAN, 12/10).
