Football Notes: West Brom, Tottenham Charged By FA For Failure To Control Players

The FA said in a statement on Wednesday that EPL clubs West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham have been charged with "failing to control their players" in Saturday's "heated" 1-1 draw. The charge relates to an incident around the 84th minute of the game, when West Brom's James McClean picked up a booking for a "rash two-footed challenge on Mousa Dembele" (REUTERS, 12/9). ... Mexican government and football authorities are investigating claims that Liga MX side UNAM Pumas captain Darío Verón used "racial slurs" against two black players from Club América during Sunday's league semifinal game. Verón, a Paraguayan defender, is accused of making "discriminatory insults" against Colombian Carlos Darwin Quintero and Ecuadorian Michael Arroyo during the match (AFP, 12/8). ... The Panhellenic Association of Paid Footballers announced on Monday that players in the Greek Superleague as well as the lower leagues "will be going on strike for the indefinite future beginning next week." The players decided to carry out the strike "due to the Greek leagues' indifference toward assisting in a fund even though two years ago they had signed a contract to provide funds to it" (GREEK REPORTER, 12/8).

D'HOOGHE BACKS CARNEIRO: FIFA Medical Committee Chair Michel d'Hooghe has "stated his support" for Chelsea's former club doctor, Eva Carneiro, who has brought a legal case against the club for "constructive dismissal, the BBC reported on Tuesday." Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho, named a respondent in the case, "is also the subject of an individual legal action." D'Hooghe said, "Of course I support Eva Carneiro. She did her job, she did her duty -- when somebody is medically in trouble she has to intervene" (REUTERS, 12/9).
