League Notes: V8 Supercars Set To Abandon Sydney Olympic Park For Gosford

V8 Supercars  is "set to abandon Sydney Olympic Park and move the season finale to a proposed new street racing track in Gosford on the New South Wales central coast." The title-deciding Sydney 500 "could have been the last appearance of the V8s at Olympic Park as plans to relocate the series-ending event to Gosford are well-advanced." Although V8 Supercars maintained that it is "committed to returning" in '16, the final year of its existing three-year contract, it is "understood to be in top-level talks to secure state government backing for the change" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 12/6). ... Russian middle-distance runner Tatyana Andrianova has been banned "after failing a drugs test more than a decade ago in what could be the first of a number of cases that would see a number of athletes stripped of medals" from the World Championships in '05 and '07. She tested "positive for the banned steroid stanozolol" while competing in the 800m at the 2005 World Championships in Finland, where she won a Bronze Medal. The IAAF is "retesting the samples of 28 athletes" from he '05 and '07 World Championships suspected of doping using the latest technology (SUNDAY TIMES, 12/6). ... The IAAF has "reopened the bidding to find alternative hosts for two events, following Russia's suspension" from int'l athletics competition. Russia "was due to host the World Race Walking Team Championships and the World Junior Championships" in '16. Countries "must register their interest in hosting" the events by Dec. 7 (BBC, 12/3).
