League Notes: Chris Froome's Independent Tests To Be Revealed Thursday

After winning a second Tour de France title "amid scrutiny of his performance in the post-Lance Armstrong era," Chris Froome "took it on himself to undergo independent testing" to determine the characteristics that make him "such an exceptional athlete." GlaxoSmithKline performed the tests in its human performance laboratory, with the results to be announced in Esquire magazine on Thursday, the '13 and '15 Tour champion last month announced on Twitter. The results will "also be submitted to a scientific journal for publication" (PA, 12/1). ... Former Australian Football League player and coach Kevin Sheedy has urged the AFL "to be brave and at least trial a twilight grand final." Inspired by the "success of the pink ball day-night Test match in Adelaide," Sheedy said that the league "could reap huge benefits from the bold move." Sheedy: "If they want to vote, I'd put my feet and my hands in the air to have a twilight grand final. ... It might be pretty good -- it might be better ... we don't know unless you actually try" (AAP, 12/2). ... Former tennis player David Lloyd said that British tennis is "a mess" and the Lawn Tennis Association "must make changes." He added that "the buck must stop" with LTA CEO Michael Downey, who he says has done "a poor job." Following Great Britain's Davis Cup victory, Andy Murray said that speaking to the LTA about the future of British tennis is a "waste of his time." Lloyd, 67, who accused Murray of "not putting enough back into the British game before the Davis Cup final," said it is "fantastic" that the Scot spoke out as he has "enormous power in controlling the way the game should be run" (BBC, 12/1).
