Bolton Wanderers Risk Administration Without New Buyer, Tell Players Club Is On Brink

League Championship side Bolton Wanderers is "in a race against time to find a new buyer to avert the threat of entering administration," according to James Ducker of the LONDON TIMES. Bolton Manager Neil Lennon and his squad attended a meeting with the Professional Footballers’ Association Tuesday in which the "seriousness of the club’s financial position was spelt out." Bolton is bottom of the league with 12 points from 18 matches, but "administration would result in an automatic 12-point deduction and significantly increase the prospect of relegation" to League One. PFA CEO Gordon Taylor insisted that while the situation was of "serious concern," it was "very retrievable" although Bolton is "under pressure to secure new investment over the next week." Trevor Birch, the insolvency expert who was appointed by club Owner Eddie Davies to broker a quick sale, said in a statement on the club’s official website that "none of the prospective buyers had met the criteria needed to complete a deal." Birch admitted that Bolton’s plight was “increasingly perilous and new investment is needed quickly" (LONDON TIMES, 12/2).
