French Ligue 1 Clubs Take Sponsors Off Jerseys To Honor Paris Victims

In a tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks, Paris St. Germain players will wear a special jersey which only bears the message "JE SUIS PARIS" (I am Paris) for the next two matches: against Malmö Wednesday and again on Saturday against Troyes, at its first home match since the attacks. The message will appear on the shirt in the space usually occupied by main partner Emirates. PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said that he would like to "especially thank the club's partners Emirates, as well as Ooredoo and QNB, who have released their space on the players' jerseys" (Paris St. Germain). French Ligue 1 side AS St. Étienne thanked its sponsors (Eovi Mcd Mutuelle, le Département de la Loire, BewellConnect, Markal, Piscines Desjoyaux and Investing Area) Monday for allowing the club to wear a jersey devoid of all sponsors, showing only the “Peace For Paris” logo designed by artist Jean Jullien. The club wore the jersey during its 2-0 loss on Sunday against Olympique de Marseille (AS St. Étienne).

LETTER OF THANKS: French Professional Football League (LFP) President Frédéric Thiriez sent a letter of thanks “to all the clubs of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, as well as all English, Spanish and Italian leagues for the tributes this weekend to the victims of the Paris attacks” (L'ÉQUIPE, 11/22).
