German Public Broadcasters ARD, ZDF Secure '16, '18 EHF Euro Rights

Handball "will return to free-to-air TV in Germany after public broadcasters ARD and ZDF acquired the rights for the next two European championships," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. Sports rights agency SportA, which is owned by the broadcasters, confirmed on Thursday that it "secured the rights for '16 edition in Poland and '18 in Croatia." The 2016 EHF Men's European Handball Championships will begin on Jan. 15 and run for 16 days. A total of 16 teams compete in 48 games for the title. ARD and ZDF will show all games of the German national team. The 2015 IHF Men's Handball World Championship, which took place in Qatar, "aired exclusively on pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland after ARD and ZDF were unable to reach an agreement with the rights holder" (QUOTENMETER, 11/19).
