Handball Bundesliga Club HSV Hamburg Again In Financial Troubles

Ailing Handball Bundesliga (HBL) club HSV Hamburg "again has financial problems," according to Henning Eberhardt of SPONSORs. The club has "to hope for additional contributions from ex-President Andreas Rudolph to stay afloat." HSV Managing Dir Christian Fitzek: "Without additional contributions from him we won't survive. We have huge problems." Rudolph has invested an eight-figure sum in the club since '04. Eighteen months after nearly going bankrupt, the club is once again -- or still -- in financial troubles. HSV spokesperson Michael Freitag: "The normal operation, like it is now, has not been secured. However, I'm optimistic that we'll find a solution." The club, which won the HBL in '11 and the Champions League in '13, "is late on player wages and arena rent for November." The club reportedly has a six-figure debt. Fitzek said it is "close to a million" (SPONSORs, 11/19).
