Franchise Notes: AFC Bournemouth Chair Says No Spending Spree For Club

Premier League "strugglers" AFC Bournemouth Chair Jeff Mostyn said that the club "will not go on a January spending spree despite getting new U.S. investors." Peak6 bought a 25% stake in the club last week to "boost the Cherries' bid" to retain their Premier League status. Mostyn: "They are shareholders and have a lot of expertise but we already had a plan for the January market. Any additional funds we can bring in shares the burden but the total we are looking at will remain the same" (BBC, 11/17). ... The South Africa Rugby Union is taking control of the Southern Kings Super Rugby team, "which is broke" and has not been able to pay players and officials their October salaries. The Kings "asked for the help, the national union said on Tuesday." The Kings are "returning to Super Rugby next year." SARU President Oregan Hoskins said, "It is a decision we have had to take reluctantly. We collectively agreed we could not allow South Africa's new entrant to be under-prepared" (AP, 11/18).
