Football Notes: Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger Wants Blood Testing In Football

Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger "has repeated his call for blood testing to be introduced in football and insisted that anyone testing positive should have their contracts terminated." Wenger elaborated on his views in an interview with beIN Sports and he has "admitted that the urine tests which are currently utilised in football may not be sufficient to catch perpetrators." He said, "I'm not satisfied with the level of testing because I believe blood tests should be done" (London GUARDIAN, 11/16). ... In the wake of the Paris massacre, having to travel to Brussels "has naturally sparked major concerns among the Spanish national team." The Spanish FA (RFEF) has been "in constant contact with their Belgian counterparts." The word from Brussels is that the "same security protocol will be followed as when Israel played at the King Baudouin Stadium in October." Above and beyond the protection the players and coaching staff "are always given on every trip, a special operation will be in place in and around the venue of the game and the hotel where the Spain team and coaching staff will be staying" (MARCA, 11/16).
