Football Notes: FC United Of Manchester Supporters Protest Fixture Move

National League North side FC United of Manchester fans "made their feelings towards the Football Association and BT Sport clear with banners and chants" after the team's FA Cup first-round clash was moved for TV coverage. The co-operative club went down 4-1 against League One side Chesterfield on Monday night, having been told that it was "powerless to prevent the fixture being switched from a Saturday 3pm start." Supporters in the stands at Broadhurst Park hung banners and sung "f*** BT Sport" and "f*** the FA," while others boycotted the first half as the visitors took a "commanding lead" (London DAILY MAIL, 11/9). ... A group of U.S. parents who "sued several football organizations" is no longer pursuing legal claims "because of steps taken to address the issue of concussions suffered by youth players, a lawyer for the group said on Monday." Meanwhile, the U.S. Soccer Federation and other groups developed a "new initiative to limit heading for children under 14 years old and implement other concussion awareness efforts, according to a joint statement" (REUTERS, 11/9). ... Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil confirmed that the club plans to open an office in January where fans "can reserve seats" at the new La Peineta stadium. He said that VIP and private box seats will also be sold. This follows the Madrid City Council saying on Oct. 21 that there are doubts over the "viable reality" of the club's move to the new stadium (AS, 11/21).
