Football Notes: Nepali Footballers Make Court Appearance

Five Nepali footballers "appeared in court charged with treason over alleged match-fixing in World Cup qualifiers in 2011." The footballers -- including former captain Sagar Thapa and goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa -- "were arrested last month after police said they found large sums of money from suspected match-fixers in their bank accounts." A lawyer for one of the players said that "they deny all charges." Prosecutors "are seeking life sentences" (BBC, 11/9). ... Belgium real estate group Century 21 Benelux CEO Grégory Maquet officially made an offer to purchase French Ligue 2 side RC Lens. After an audit of the club’s accounts, Maquet officially made his offer to RC Lens majority shareholder Hafiz Mammadov (L’ÉQUIPE, 11/9).
