Super Rugby side Chiefs "are taking next year's home Super Rugby match against the Crusaders to Fiji." The teams are to meet on July 1 "in the capital city, Suva." It will be just the second time a Kiwi side "has taken a game out of New Zealand, following the Crusaders' match against the Sharks in London in 2011, following the earthquake" (STUFF, 11/6). ... Queensland "is in danger of losing its Test after local cricket fans delivered an embarrassing Gabba snub." A "woeful Sunday attendance" of 6,608, which left more than 30,000 empty seats, has put the Gabba under renewed heat to hang on to its Test. Test cricket "has been played at the Gabba for 84 years but it could be wiped from the schedule within three years," with local fans losing interest in anything other than an Ashes series" (COURIER MAIL, 11/8). ... V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said that Kiwi motorsport fans "could soon be treated to more than one round of the V8 Supercars championship on this side of the Tasman." Warburton said that a second event in New Zealand is "absolutely" something they would consider, but several boxes would have to be ticked before it happens. The annual trip to New Zealand "is universally enjoyed by teams and drivers not only because of the exciting track at Pukekohe, but also for the laid-back atmosphere and passion Kiwi motorsport fans exhibit" (STUFF, 11/8).
