Hungarian Side MTK Launches $21.8M Stadium Project

Hungarian football side MTK signed a deal with a construction firm to build the club's new stadium under a 6.3B Hungarian Forint ($21.8M) project, according to Jaroslaw Adamowski of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. The Nándor Hidegkuti stadium is to be completed by the end of Aug. '16, "two months later than initially planned." Funds for the build "will be provided via a Hungarian government project" to spend as much as 40B Hungarian Forint ($140.4M) on modernizing and expanding a total of 27 football stadiums by the end of '16. The stadium will be able "to accommodate up to 5,500 spectators." Last season, MTK reported an average attendance of "only about 1,500 spectators per match." However, MTK President Tamas Deutsch said that with the new investment, the Budapest-based side is "aiming to attract more supporters to its matches." Deutsch: "Yes, we have a goal to, in the near future, use 80% or 90% of our available capacity [at the new stadium]" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 11/5).
