Football Notes: UEFA Provisionally Rules Out Further Fines For Barcelona

The UEFA Control, Ethics & Disciplinary Body has "provisionally ruled out fining Barcelona again" if its fans display pro-Catalan independence flags, "as is expected to occur en masse" during the club's Champions League game on Wednesday against BATE Borisov at the Camp Nou. No more sanctions will be forthcoming until the legal proceedings around the issue reach a conclusion (MARCA, 11/3). ... Turkish football club Trabzonspor President Ibrahim Ethem Haciosmanoglu and several members of his board "have been given lengthy suspensions after a referee was locked in his dressing room at the club's stadium." Haciosmanoglu was "angered by Cagatay Sahan's decision not to award his team a penalty late" in a 2-2 draw with Gaziantepspor and ordered Sahan and his assistants "to be locked in overnight." They "were released" when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intervened. The Turkish Football Federation announced Haciosmanoglu has been suspended "from carrying out his official functions for 280 days" and fined 150,000 Turkish lira ($52,315) (London GUARDIAN, 11/4). ... Former Ascensco MX club Necaxa players Luis Gorocito and Alejandro Molina "could be charged with homicide and sentenced to up to 40 years in prison" after the 22-year-old man they assaulted in August died on Tuesday (MILENIO DIGITAL, 11/4). ... CONMEBOL announced the payment of $600,000 to four Bolivian clubs for their participation in this year's Copa Sudamericana. The payments had not been made due to the Bolivian Football Federation's (FBF) legal troubles. The federation owed Real Potosí, Oriente Petrolero, Bolívar and Aurora $150,000 apiece, but the payment had been delayed (AFP, 11/4).
