Franchise Notes: Leyton Orient Owner Arrested Over Fraud And Money Laundering

League Two side Leyton Orient Chair Francesco Becchetti "has been arrested on behalf of authorities in Albania, where he is wanted in connection with fraud and money laundering." The Italian businessman, who took over the club in July last year, "was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's extradition unit in London on Oct. 26." He appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court the same day and was released on bail after a security of £50,000 ($76,900) was paid. Becchetti is under curfew between 11pm and 5am, "has given his passport to the police and is not allowed to leave the country." A warrant was issued by Albanian authorities in June over alleged money laundering and fraud between Jan. '12 and Oct. '13 (London DAILY MAIL, 11/4). ... Chelsea has "rejected an offer from Monaco" for its Manager Jose Mourinho. Owner Roman Abramovich "is showing patience in the 52-year-old for now, but it's understood that if the fans turn against, him he could be sacked." Italian businessman Alessandro Proto claimed "to have held talks with Abramovich in London" but was told to pay €100M ($108,600) if they want to secure Mourinho's services (London DAILY EXPRESS, 11/4). ... Chelsea player John Terry came out "in support" of Mourinho and refused "to contemplate the embattled Chelsea manager being sacked." Terry, who insisted Mourinho "has the players' support contrary to rumours of unrest and despite disciplinary disputes with the Football Association and being the subject of a personal legal claim from former first-team doctor Eva Carneiro." Terry: "I can assure you now that the players are 100 percent behind the manager" (EXPRESS & STAR, 11/3).
